Isn't that sock pattern just divine! I saw that today as well and decided I had to knit those. I have been looking for toe up patterns for a bit now...well I cannot wait to see how yours turn out!

I didnt' think of the children from the stories.. but I have to knit those socks because of the poet reference. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I'm off to look at the new Knitty myself but just wanted to let you know that you can most certainly do a flap/gusset heel on a toe-up sock. I've done it on a few of my pairs.

There's even a toe up pattern with a heel flap in this month's Knitty.

Sounds like lots of knitting will be going on! Don't be intimidated by toe up socks, they may take a bit of practice, but it's quick to learn. Just make sure you cast of with a bigger needle, so the top isn't too tight.

Thank you! FYI, I'm generally a top-down sock knitter too, but this stitch pattern was asking to be knit from the toe-up. And with an actual gusset and heel flap, toe-up isn't so bad. Though I'll be honest, I prefer kitchener over sewn bind-off, and I'm not sure why. Probably because the toe has less stitches. But you should try toe-up with a real gusset at least once. It's nifty!

I have that same sock on my Must Knit List!

I prefer cuff down myself, but I have knit them from the toe-up and it is not so bad.

If you are looking for a free toe-up pattern with a normal flap and gusset google "Your're Putting Me On" Socks by Judy Gibson. She has a pattern for worsted weight and there is also a Generic Form to figure out your own gauge pattern. The heel looks just like a cuff down sock.

OMG, I love that sock! Red Hot!

I'm the same as far as socks are concerned, heel flaps top down, but I have been curious about toe up and that baudelaire is a good reason for me to learn :)

Baudelaire pattern from Knitty is so pretty! I can't wait to have more time to browse all the pattern in this new issue.
